For You Runners
I'm not a runner. Nor do I train many endurance athletes. However, I do trainpeople who have a love for running. Here in Florida, Walt Disney World puts on a heck of marathon weekend at the beginning of every year. The events include a marathons, 1/2 marathon, 10k, 5k and all of that other crazy stuff. They even have an event called the Dopey where you run a 5k, 10k, 1/2 and full marathon in 4 consecutive days for a total of 48.6 miles! The point is, many of my clients do one or all of these events.
To help them out, I try to research what I can about training as an endurance athlete or in more realistic terms, a recreational runner. The goal is to help my clients do what they enjoy doing without debilitating themselves.
So, yesterday I finished episode 199 of the Strength Coach podcast and though I needed to share this with any of my runner friends and clients. It's an interview with track coach and personal trainer Joe Messner, who has a different philosophy for training endurance athletes and long distance runners. It made complete sense to me but is a definitely counter culture to how I believe most runners go about their training. So if you have a few minutes you can find the link above and his interview starts at minute 36:46.
