Okay, I know I've said it out loud and plenty of times in my head; "Chic-fil-A is healthier choice when it comes to fast food." And yes, I said this without doing much research on the subject.
I think how Chic-fil-A gets you is their impeccable service, nice employees, clean stores (compared to most fast food joints), and heck, they even have fun kids party's and daddy daughter nights on Thursdays. Not to mention my kids love the place and it's really good.
There's a difference in the two questions, Is Chic-fil-a healthy? or is Chic-fil-A a better choice than, let's say, McDonalds or Burger King? From a calorie stand point, Chic-fil-A is probably better. For example:
An 8 count chicken nugget at Chic-fil-A has 270 calories while McDonald's is 380 calories
A Chicken Sandwhich at Chic-fil-A has 500 calories while Burger King's is 660.
Fries are similar, having less calories per serving than McDonald's and BK.
However, calories aren't the issue. You could compare calories milk shakes too and doesn't make one a better choice than the other. The issue is food content and the most popular Chic-fil-A foods are basically chemically enhanced laboratory experiments that have lots of harmful crap in them.
These crap patties include GMO's (linked to infertility, cancer, allergies and tumor growth), rancid vegetable oils (a highly inflammatory substance containing high counts of omega-6 acids), processed, bleached, and refined wheat (hard to digest, no nutritional value), factory farmed meat (meat fed with GMO's and anti-biotics to counteract the horrible diet they're fed), MSG (encourages people to overeat, causes liver dysplasia.
What about the salads? Including the lovely Avacodo Lime Ranch Dressing, their are over 75 ingredients in the salad. Most of these ingredients are names you'd never recognize like propylene glycol alginate, disodium guanylate or disodium inosinate. Don't forget the dose of MSG.
What if I only at the grilled chicken, no bun, just straight up? Good, right?
Wrong...Here's what the grilled chicken is made of: water, apple cider vinegar, soybean oil, yeast extract, salt, modified corn starch, palm oil, dehydrated garlic, dehydrated onion, corn maltodextrin, sea salt, flavor, sugar, chicken stock, cane molasses, chicken fat, spice, natural flavor [including smoke], dextrose, lemon peel, citric acid, red bell pepper, orange juice concentrate, grape juice concentrate, natural flavor, paprika, vinegar, xanthan gum, ascorbic acid, and spices).
Orange juice concentrate? In my grilled chicken??
I hope I didn't ruin you day by busting this bubble. Chic-fil-A is not healthy. I know, it sucks. I will never say, "Chic-fil-A is a healthier choice" again. Can't wait to read this to my kids today. As long as there is a playground, a dressed up cow and free ice cream, I'm sure they won't care
