DDOC #238: If All Hell Broke Loose

"If you think lifting weights is dangerous, try being weak. Being weak is dangerous." Bret Contreras

We live in an unpredictable world. It seems almost daily we here of a new tragedy. Whether it is caused by humans or natural disasters, they happen and they seem to be happening with more frequency.

I remember hearing of a terrible tragedy in a Brazil nightclub where a raging fire killed over 230 people. This was caused by the band playing deciding to shoot off a flare inside of the club...

An interview with one of the security guards said "the only reason I made it out alive is because I was strong."

When I'm in public places where large crowds are gathered for anything from shopping to entertainment, I am amazed by the amount of people who would have no physical ability to protect themselves or their family if danger broke out.

It's been well documented that the United States has an obesity problem. What's scarier is our youth are worse off. The child obesity problem is a matter of national security.

Why?? Twenty-five percent of American's are turned away from the military because they cannot pass the basic physical tests. Sixty-million dollars a year are lost in trying to re-place the recruits who get in but can't physically handle the physical stress of military training.

But let's just start with you and I. It's our personal responsibility to maximize this amazing gift we have; the human body. Not for aesthetic purposes, but so we can physically handle this unpredictable life.

No matter your age you should be able to run, push, pull, climb, jump, carry, throw at the maximal ability you've been given. It's selfish not too. Especially if others count on you for protection, comfort, love, support, and being an example of physical health (parents).

Make it your goal to maximize the physical body you've been blessed with. Improvement in your health and physical body are nothing more than a choice.

Ask yourself...If all hell broke loose, would I be able to protect myself, my children, my family, my friends? Would my physical ability be an asset in that situation?

I pray that you are never put in a position like this. But, hell breaks loose everyday. Being physically ready always improves chances of a positive outcome.
