Daily Dose of Coach #306: How to Eat Bad and Look Good

Okay, so maybe the title of this post is more of a great headline to get you to focus on a pretty solid nutrition hack.


With my nutrition coaching clients, I try to get them to eat the portions given to them of lean protein, vegetables, good carbohydrates and fats in three meals a day.


The next question that comes is, "what about snacks?" It's popular belief that we should be grazing or eating 4-6 times per day. However, a lot of that comes from bodybuilding, physique, and athletic based diets.


Most of us need a snack or two throughout the day to maintain our energy levels or satiety. However, sometimes eating another baby carrot or cheese stick between breakfast and lunch can drive you to tears.


The point is if you are going to choose a not so great food choice focus on doing that with your snacks, not your meals. Do your best to eat three healthy meals throughout the day and don't think it's the end of the world to eat a piece of chocolate after lunch or drink a glass of wine after dinner. Keep those snacks in control; however, 2 Hershey bars and a bottle of wine aren't going to help your diet, but a moderate serving between great meals is sometimes useful for the soul.

Eat great meals, but keep your sanity with some imperfect snacks. With nutrition, it's not about being perfect, it's just about getting better.
